About SnŠldan

Snældan is a traditional wool producer and knitwear manufacturer, founded in 1949 and headed today by Carl Johan Olsen. Their gorgeous heritage yarns are still processed in their workshop by the shore of the fjord at Strendur in the Faroe Islands.

The lanolin-rich Faroese wool is firstly combed to remove all the hair. The Faroese term for the resulting yarn is nappað tógv, which is wonderfully soft.

This is then blended with wool from the Falkland Islands. The sheep on the Falkland Islands are 7/8ths Merino. The resulting melding from the North and South Atlantic produces this world-class yarn.
